Spinal Fracture

A spinal fracture occurs when one or more vertebrae are damaged due to trauma, osteoporosis, tumors, or another condition that weakens bone.

Common Symptoms

  • Back or neck pain

  • Reduced mobility

  • Numbness

  • Weakness

  • Neurological symptoms when nerves or the spinal cord are affected

Diagnosis

X-rays, CT, and MRI may be used to evaluate the fracture, spinal stability, and possible neurological involvement.

Treatment

Stable fractures may be treated conservatively. Unstable fractures or significant neurological compression may require surgical stabilization and decompression.
