Scoliosis

Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature and rotation of the spine.

Possible Effects

• Visible spinal asymmetry

• Back pain

• Imbalance

• Functional limitation

• Neurological symptoms in some patients

Diagnosis

Standing spinal X-rays are commonly used to assess spinal curvature and alignment. MRI or CT may be used when additional structural evaluation is needed.

Treatment

Treatment depends on age, curve severity, progression, symptoms, and neurological involvement and may include observation, rehabilitation, bracing, or reconstructive surgery.
