Sciatica

Sciatica describes pain caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve pathway or the lumbar nerve roots that contribute to it.


Common Symptoms

  • Pain traveling from the buttock into the leg

  • Burning or electric-like pain

  • Numbness or tingling

  • Leg weakness


Diagnosis

Evaluation may include neurological examination and MRI when persistent symptoms or significant nerve compression are suspected.


Treatment
