Degenerative Disc

Degenerative disc disease describes structural changes in spinal discs that commonly develop with aging and wear.


Common Symptoms

  • Back or neck pain

  • Stiffness

  • Radiating nerve pain

  • Numbness

  • Weakness


Diagnosis

Clinical examination and imaging may be used to determine whether disc degeneration is associated with nerve compression or other spinal abnormalities.


Treatment

Treatment may include physical therapy, medication, injections, or surgery when significant neurological compression is present.
