Cervical Myelopathy

Cervical myelopathy is spinal cord dysfunction caused by compression within the cervical spine.


Common Symptoms

  • Hand clumsiness

  • Balance problems

  • Arm or hand weakness

  • Difficulty walking

  • Reduced fine motor control


Diagnosis

Evaluation commonly includes neurological examination and MRI to assess the spinal cord and determine the degree of compression.


Treatment

Significant or progressive spinal cord compression may require surgical decompression to reduce the risk of further neurological deterioration.
