Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome develops when the median nerve becomes compressed as it travels through the wrist.


Common Symptoms

  • Numbness or tingling

  • Hand weakness

  • Wrist or hand pain

  • Difficulty gripping objects


Diagnosis

Diagnosis may include clinical examination as well as nerve conduction studies or electromyography when additional evaluation is needed.


Treatment

Treatment may include splinting, activity modification, medications, injections, or carpal tunnel release surgery in appropriate cases.
